Black – DAIRO SEKEMI ADEKOREDE

black

Black!

A million shades of neither white nor grey

The time of life; it clearly signifies

As waves arrive the awaiting shore

Our time of life arrives at its end

The agony of death black portrays

Pain and sorrow, gnash and anguish

Replica of the end of a journey

Long or short, it barely tells

The ungrateful man still murmurs

Death!

Here is your sting

That got me at last

Unwilling to accept defeat

I swallow my tears alongside fears

I will not wear black because you force me

Nay! I will wear white to shame you

Purity and joy

Even in sadness and fear

Shame unto thee,

Oh black!

For thou thinkest above thy peers

But love of my fellowman; thy victory must have

My bosom friend has thou stolen

Yet, against my will

Will I wear black for you.
