Poetry Play #53

poetry play penastory

Samuel Oluwatobi Olatunji and Nanya Kooper

Cynical is my name

Sarcasm is my game

To get the crown

You must be the clown

For this I get lost in a terrible situation

Leading to my high level of bad intention

All I sometimes want to perform is a little magic

But things usually surprisingly become tragic

To think I could overcome my demons is a fool’s thought

And this has now left me in doubt

One hungry day, I thought I had plucked a fruit from a tree

But I looked at my hand and saw the bleeding breast of Miss Bee

My first thought was murderer!

Even though I couldn’t seem to remember her

I ran into the wild hands of the forest

Where I developed another interest

To entertain the wildlings of the forest

In hope that I would give them rest

It was here that I learnt how the birds sing

Then I decided to entertain lion the king

The King tuned my voice and gave me a song

And then many songs which would have remained unsung

And as I sang, I heard a rising roar

The lion was ready to eat me raw

In a quick haste I realised the jungle was not my dwelling place,

It was time to return to my humble abode

So my feet flew through the forest

I escaped, looking for a new place of rest

NB: Poetry Play, a product of Artilogue in partnership with PenAStory, is a game in form of poetic dialogue for every poet on BBM. It is a game of two poets: one drops a line or more, and the other replies, flowing along until one of them gives up, or the poem gets too long. Every poem formed from this game will be published here (penastory.com) every Friday and Saturday. So poets, are you ready to play? If yes, contact Samuel via BBM: 7baa55ae
