I Can’t Hold On To Any Good Thing – GODWAYNE AYOMIDE OGU

I grasp, I hold, I cling to, I just can’t do

I can’t hold on to any good thing

‘The most beautiful things can’t be seen or touched’

Its true for people like me that’s a good thing

It’s the little things we over look that matter, those things do

I had my chance, I blew it, I can’t hold on to any good thing

The image of her first smile sticks, it sticks like glue

Mine is gone, I blew it because I can’t hold on to any good thing

She walked up to us, said “hello”, she was talking to me, what do I do?

Maybe I could hold on to this one thing

Her hair –black, lips – pink, eyes –  blue

Maybe I could keep this, give her a good ring

It was beautiful, it was love, I was just looking to woo

Maybe she could be more than just a fling

It was going to be special, different. How? I had no clue

All I knew was she was my queen, I was to be her king

I wore a smile, bathed with joy, slept with laughter. I wore a new hue

She made me feel loved, like I was a good thing

This was fresh, raw I was turning brand new

Maybe I could be one, be a good thing

Then one night, the cops called. It was a bad sign, this I knew.

I sensed it, I felt it even before I heard the bell ding

She was gone, drunk driver, they said. This couldn’t be true

I couldn’t have spoilt my only chance, lost my only good thing

I had forgotten that beautiful things weighed nothing in my hands,

They fell off, it was something I knew

I was a joker, it is a curse, I can’t hold on to any good thing

People like me aren’t like you

We can’t hold on to any good thing
