The Chain Series: Forget This Chain

The sea hung storm-bound
The good ship Jesus would never wreck
Lucy sang to us- while we fought
Blood and sweat we rained
Forget this chain, this not me
Broken and beating, yes that’s me
Arms amput, clans destroyed
Roots infected, still Lucy sang
Singing chains, she cried krr- Krr
She cried hot tears when she was deflowered
Hawkins knew better, but never colour blind
Jesus in chains or perhaps Jesus the saviour
Otti says, his chain is shinier, Newton reminds
Us that we are still in chains by ‘the grace of God’
We were broken and speechless of his sight
Paddling across the middle passage
Under the weight of sin as spearsmen filing out
In masses of dark sky and horried clouds
The furnace-heat of drums and chains
Orchestrated and sang along in the
Terror of the night-storm Atlantic is angry
Our chains disrupt her silence
Out so we marched a million gone and thrown
Forget this chain, this not me
Broken and beaten yes that’s me.
