Christmas In December – ELISHA SEYITAN

A little years away from Infancy
Memories of a growing child
I remember that last month
In fact, that month
Is always ushered in by the earlier EMBERS

September I prep for a new session
With an atmosphere filled with new things
The whitening of my socks
Reaffirms my charming presence
A nice haircut fitted to illuminate my charming smile
Am less worried about the lashes that comes with schooling
The presence of my fellow mates, gives me a sense of succor

I remember October
The month of History
When the essence of my national space is MOST elucidated
The history I learnt My dear Country
Gained her Independence on the 1st day of this moment
Little me, less interested in this
Other than it is a holiday
Away from school
I watch at .my comfort
My dear Power Rangers, the heroism of Silver of Hawk
The Unity of Justice League
The truancy of Tom and Jerry

November comes with a spiritual ambience
Little me marvel at the spiritual alertness
That clouds everywhere and everyone
Life is  a competition is more profane now
12 month makes a year
This the eleventh, is a sign of grace and mercy
Dangerous days lies ahead
Those are the echoes of the church and mosques
People begin to observe all tenets of living
Like the next month is the end of human existence
Little me is more elated by the hiatus that comes with this month
They call it MID TERM break
I call it time to play
When I can roll my tyres across the road
Whether Friday-Monday
Thursday-Sunday
All I want is my Break

The trees are all over
Greener and brighter than ever
The light as bright as the sun
The mystery man Santa is around
It’s December
Am less concerned about the school exams of this month
My imaginary mind is more fertile
With graphic pictures of my combat with fried chicken
And Mum’s spiced jollof rice
The trip to Amusement park promised by Dad
The new set of clothes -little me with the swag
I can remember the parties around stereos beaming with sounds
Of Awilo Lokomba
I am less worried by the rush of this month
Like I was then  I cared less if the word recession exist
If it did maybe in my verbal reasoning or spelling class
All I wanted in this month was the 25th day
The day I believed by the words of my Sunday School teacher
Jesus Christ was born
Thank you Jesus .. How awesome your birth is
It comes with my Gold Spot bottle
My Toy Gun
And My Toy Phone
Oh who remembers that ring tone
Ayinayinyatatarinrinisiyan
What a childhood

Christmas in December
Christmas of memories
It seems favourable to only the young ones
Hmm, should I refuse to grow?
I have no choice as I have experience Reformation physically
I have to create my Christmas…
