Marathi is one of India’s most widely spoken languages, with over 83 million native speakers — and Marathi readers are increasingly looking for ebooks online. Whether you read Marathi fiction, Marathi short stories, or Marathi non-fiction, this guide covers the best places to find Marathi ebooks online in 2025, what the catalogue looks like, and what to expect from each platform.
Where to Find Marathi Ebooks Online
1. Pen A Story
Pen A Story (penastory.com) carries Marathi content as part of its broader Indian-language catalogue. The platform is designed around affordable per-title pricing — from Rs. 49 — and supports offline reading on Android and iOS. For Marathi readers who also read in Hindi or English, Pen A Story provides access to a broader Indian literature ecosystem: thriller ebooks, mythology fiction, and children’s ebooks across languages.
2. Pratilipi
Pratilipi has one of the largest free Marathi ebook and short story libraries online. The content is user-generated — which means volume is high but quality varies. For readers who want to read a large amount of Marathi fiction without paying, Pratilipi is the most direct option. The platform covers Marathi romance, drama, fantasy, and regional fiction. Quality control is minimal; popular stories self-select through reader engagement.
3. Amazon Kindle India
Amazon Kindle India has a Marathi ebooks section, though it is smaller than the Hindi or English catalogues. Pricing for Marathi ebooks on Kindle is often higher than on Indian-native platforms. The catalogue skews toward major published Marathi authors and classics rather than emerging writers. If you are looking for a specific established Marathi author, Kindle is worth checking. For broader Marathi fiction browsing, Pratilipi or Pen A Story typically offer more options at better prices.
4. BookGanga
BookGanga is a dedicated Marathi digital publishing platform — one of the oldest Marathi ebook stores online. It has a substantial Marathi catalogue including novels, short story collections, and non-fiction. Per-title purchase model. The interface is functional but older. For readers specifically seeking Marathi-language content from Marathi publishers, BookGanga is worth exploring alongside the larger platforms.
5. National Digital Library of India (NDL India)
NDL India (ndl.iitkgp.ac.in) has digitised Marathi academic texts, historical documents, and older published works. Free after registration. Not useful for contemporary Marathi fiction, but valuable for researchers, students, and readers interested in classical Marathi literature.
Best Marathi Ebooks — What to Read
Marathi literature has a rich tradition across multiple genres. For readers new to Marathi fiction online, strong categories to explore include:
- Marathi mythology and spiritual fiction — Stories drawing from Warkari tradition, Pandharpur, and Sant literature have a large and dedicated readership. This genre connects to the broader Indian mythology ebooks category.
- Marathi historical fiction — Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the Maratha empire period is one of the most popular settings in Marathi fiction, with multiple recent novelists working in this space.
- Marathi short stories (laghu katha) — Marathi has a strong short story tradition. Several Marathi short story collections are available on Pratilipi and BookGanga.
- Contemporary Marathi urban fiction — Younger Marathi writers are publishing fiction set in Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur that deals with modern Indian urban life. This genre is growing rapidly on digital platforms.
Marathi Ebooks for Children
For parents looking for Marathi children’s ebooks online, options include StoryWeaver by Pratham Books (free, strong Marathi children’s catalogue for ages 3-12), Pratilipi (user-generated Marathi children’s stories, free), and Pen A Story (curated children’s content in Indian languages).
